Point set silhouettes via local reconstruction
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present an algorithm to compute the silhouette set of a point cloud. Previous methods extract point set silhouettes by thresholding point normals, which can lead to simultaneous overand under-detection of silhouettes. We argue that additional information such as surface curvature is necessary to resolve these issues. To this end, we develop a local reconstruction scheme using Gabriel and intrinsic Delaunay criteria and define point set silhouettes based on the notion of a silhouette generating set. The mesh umbrellas, or local reconstructions of one-ring triangles surrounding each point sample, generated by our method enable accurate silhouette identification near sharp features and close-by surface sheets, and provide the information necessary to detect other characteristic curves such as creases and boundaries. We show that these curves collectively provide a sparse and intuitive visualization of point cloud data.

Dense 3D Reconstruction with a Hand-Held Camera
In this paper we present a method for dense 3D reconstruction from videos where object silhouettes are hard to retrieve. We introduce a close coupling between sparse bundle adjustment and dense multiview reconstruction, which includes surface constraints by the sparse point cloud and an implicit loop closing via the dense surface. The surface is computed in a volumetric framework and guarantees...
متن کاملInteractive Reconstruction of 3-D Objects from Silhouettes
$%675$&7 Many techniques for reconstructing 3-D shapes from 2-D images use silhouette data. A problem with this approach is that, if no a priori information about the 3-D shape is available, we do not know neither the accuracy of the reconstruction, nor where it is better to locate new viewpoints for improving the accuracy. We present and demonstrate a new general approach to interactive, objec...
متن کاملWhat causes the facing-the-viewer bias in biological motion?
Orthographically projected biological motion point-light displays are generally ambiguous with respect to their orientation in depth, yet observers consistently prefer the facing-the-viewer interpretation. There has been discussion as to whether this bias can be attributed to the social relevance of biological motion stimuli or relates to local, low-level stimulus properties. In the present stu...
متن کاملIntegration of Multiview Stereo and Silhouettes Via Convex Functionals on Convex Domains
We propose a convex framework for silhouette and stereo fusion in 3D reconstruction from multiple images. The key idea is to show that the reconstruction problem can be cast as one of minimizing a convex functional where the exact silhouette consistency is imposed as a convex constraint that restricts the domain of admissible functions. As a consequence, we can retain the original stereo-weight...
متن کاملP. MCILROY AND T. DRUMMOND: RECONSTRUCTION FROM U. A. SILHOUETTES 1 Reconstruction from Uncalibrated Affine Silhouettes
A method for recovering structure and motion from a set of scaled orthographic silhouette views with unconstrained camera motion is presented. The outer epipolar tangencies between six or more views are used simultaneously to recover the relative pose of the cameras and hence the visual hull of the object. The camera representation proposed permits a closed form solution in the optimization of ...
